hooked greeting
noun phrase
A greeting that demands a particular kind of reply.
When Yousef arrived at his morning Physics class, Alexander was there waiting for him. It was early yet and Yousef didn’t really have the energy for conversation, but Alexander - as always - shot him a hooked greeting.
“I never thought I’d see you again!” said Alexander, with mock surprise.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily,” said Yousef. Some friendships were worth it.
