stereotrap
noun
An action or choice that one is disinclined from specifically because it reinforces a stereotype.
The study group had been listening to Ludek’s music in the background for a while, and when his chosen album finished, he picked Giorgia to DJ next. She scrolled through her mp3s, mindful of the fact that she was already seen as a bit of an otaku. For a moment she considered the JPop album which she always listened to when studying alone. In this crowd, though, it was a stereotrap, and she wasn’t quite secure enough in her friendship with this group to take that particular social risk. She settled on a Jack Johnson album instead, hoping that was neutral enough to send no particular message.
